The Street of Birds and Shadows

The Street of Birds and Shadows is a public art project on Ella Street in Hull, initiated and managed by local residents with ESRA- Ella Street Residents Association.

In 2012 Martin Heron was commissioned as lead artist, with a brief to create a series of artwork installations for the street, and engage local residents in developing their own ideas for further artworks.

The aim throughout has been to promote a strong partnership of people and place, with residents pooling their creative ideas and talents to produce street art that is unique to where they live, enhances the physical fabric and ambience of their street, and fosters a genuine sense of shared community identity and endeavour. The artworks will hopefully be enjoyed by many visitors, and inspire future projects for communities in Hull and beyond.
